About

HeadShot_MJRussellStudios

Greetings!  Welcome to my virtual studio, a place where we can share musings on creativity, art-making, and studio notes.  Much of my recent artwork is textile-based collage featuring silk paper, nuno felt, handspun yarns and/or handwoven fabrics from the collection I’ve amassed during fifteen years of fiber art. In my early adult life I resisted sewing in any form (until “Thread Day,” a funny story you can read here) but for the past 10+ years I have enthusiastically explored the many variations of art quilting. I absolutely love silk screening, fabric dyeing and other surface design techniques, have branched out to encaustic, printmaking and mixed media, and recently returned to a long-lost love of photography. I enjoy sharing these mediums, techniques and processes with you in this blog, and I hope you’ll enjoy . . . and comment on . . . these conversations.

Read on (or subscribe using the link on the main page) for more glimpses into MJ Russell Studios (including occasional photos of the sweetest studio pup ever!).  You’ll learn more about my adventures in acrylic and encaustic painting and printmaking, as well as occasional posts about other creative endeavors like cooking, gardening and even beekeeping . . . but don’t worry: I intentionally limit my list of interests to no more than 50 at a time.  After all, one must have a little bit of FOCUS! Welcome to MJ Russell Studios, where I’ll share this joyful artistic journey with you.
